More About our Guest Speaker:

Andy Lawlor is an esteemed educator and has been at the business school for 44 years teaching business planning.  Lawlor is the visionary behind the development of the school's esteemed International MAP course.  When Ross introduced MAP as its signature learning experience in 1992, it was limited to domestic projects. However, at the request of then-Dean Joe White, Lawlor spearheaded a pilot for international projects in 1995. Under Lawlor's guidance, this pilot blossomed into 36 international projects per year by 2006 and was officially integrated into the current MAP course for first-year MBA students. Lawlor's extensive network has connected MAP with over 200 corporations, non-profits, and nongovernmental organizations worldwide, operating in more than 40 countries during his 31 years of MAP participation. He has mentored countless students who have embarked on transformative MAP projects globally.

Over the span of his academic career, Andy has taught more than 10,000 MBA students across subjects such as business planning, strategy, and entrepreneurship, corporate venturing, and team project courses, and has overseen over 1,700 MBA projects since 1983.  Lawlor has amassed a wealth of experience in the private sector. He has held leadership positions as Chairman and President of two companies, President of another, and Vice President of a fourth. Andy's executive expertise spans across 50 years and encompasses a versatile range of industries.

Andy's extensive business experience is complemented by his strong academic background, with a fellowship with the National Science Foundation at Duke University and North Carolina College. Well-regarded as both a business consultant and a serial entrepreneur, Andy Lawlor is not only a key educator but also a mentor who has nurtured the skills and ambitions of countless business professionals.

Andrew Lawlor, retired director of Global MBA Projects and lecturer in entrepreneurship and strategy at the Stephen M. Ross School of Business, was also one of two recipents of this year’s University of Michigan President’s Award for Distinguished Service in International Education.
