Dr. Lewis recently retired as a Senior Partner in McKinsey & Co. Inc. after 20 years with the firm. His responsibilities at McKinsey included being the Founding Director of the McKinsey Global Institute. Prior to McKinsey, he was Acting United States Secretary Of Energy, Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense and Senior Financial Officer at the World Bank. He holds a Ph.D. in theoretical physics from Oxford University, where he was a Rhodes Scholar.

"The Power of Productivity" analyzes the disparity between rich and poor countries and how the chronic poverty of many nations affects more than the citizens and economies of those nations. Dr. Lewis argues that the key to reducing economic inequalities between rich and poor countries is productivity and its links to competition and consumption. Rather than focusing on the macroeconomics of these countries, as is conventionally done, the McKinsey Global Institute worked from the ground up, studying everything from state-of-the-art auto markets to black market street vendors and mom-and-pop stores. This unprecedented research method and Dr. Lewis' years of experience with economic policy combine to make "The Power of Productivity" the most authoritative and compelling view of the global economy today.
